Community Recovery and Resilience

Supporting the community.

In the last few years parts of regional Victoria have experienced drought, bushfire and floods.  In the video below we hear from community members who have gone through these natural disasters and emergencies and hear about the importance of the work of community health recovery and resilience teams such as those at Gateway Health and Gippsland Lakes Complete Health.

“If you don’t have someone who knows the systems then you can’t navigate it and you end up worse mentally and physically just by trying to find your way through.”

Jacki Eckert, Executive Director, Population Health
Gateway Health

ARRCH is advocating for sustained funding of the community recovery and resilience program so that we can provide a dedicated workforce that will work with the community across all of our catchment areas in between disasters to help them build their capability and preparedness.  This local and trusted workforce would then be able to be mobilised quickly in the event of an emergency.
